Results from August 10th & 11th
Hard to believe that we are at the halfway point of our season and we have been rained out 4 for 4 on Saturdays and 2 of 4 Sundays. The only saving grace this year was that we managed to get an event in Monday July 1st this year. Sunday after torrential rain overnight Saturday was picture perfect and we enjoyed a great day of racing.
We held our annual Street Car Shootout as well Sunday and we had a very good turnout of cars for the Shootout with 12 registered in the Cruiser Class (13 sec & slower) and 9 in the unlimited Outlaw Class. The race of the event was the semi final of outlaw as for the first time in many years it was not obvious who was going to win as the 2 fastest cars present faced off in the semi with Doug Strickland’s Pro Charged Chev Camaro facing off against Paul Powers Nitrous assisted Dodge Avenger. At mid track it appeared to be anyone’s race but in the end Power pulled off another win with a very strong time of 8.59 @ 163.99 mph against Doug’s 8.70 @ 159 mph. Amazing considering both vehicles are street legal right down to in Power’s case electric windows and power locks, the only thing missing is AC! In the final while somewhat anticlimactic Power took out Curtis Pennell’s Chev small block Datsun Z with an ET 8.63 to Pennel’s ET 9.9 .
We also had a strong field of Super Pro and Pro class cars competing for the season long points chase. Saturday’s gambler action was cancelled after the 1st round due to heavy rain.
